Gen. George Casey was before Congress today, and one of the issues he addressed was the Iraq Troop Surge. He said that he did not believe the entire surge was needed, and that he thought only two of the five brigades were necessary. When questioned on his views, he said he would not put a single more solider in harms way than was necessary. This is a commendable view, but I believe that Gen. Casey has lost any authority to speak on the issue.
While I respect General Casey for his service to our country, he was removed from duty by the President because he failed to end the violence, so excuse me if I don’t think his advice is the most credible.
