Mitt Romney has not always been a Conservative – but there is little question in my mind that he is now. Its true, he WAS pro-choice, he WAS pro-gun control, and he WAS pro-gay marriage. But now, thirteen years after he was all of those things, he is now none of them.
Undoubtedly, there are those who will try to label Mitt Romney as a flip-flopper, as happened to John Kerry in 2008. However, the two candidates are hardly comparable when it comes to the “Flip Flop” department.
John Kerry switched positions multiple times on single issues over a period of about a year. Mitt Romney has changed his positions on a few issues once over a fourteen year period. John Kerry’s continual position changes (I call it political wind-surfing) made him appear week and indecisive. Mitt Romney changed positions once, and then worked in favor of those positions in a very dedicated way. Romney did “flip”, but he did NOT “flip-flop”. He changed positions ONCE on a few issues in what became a gradual shift to the right. I’ll say it again, there is no reason to believe that Mitt Romney’s positions were not genuine.
