Ranking the Candidates.

I broke down the debate last night, but I did not provide any actual ranking or scoring of the performances. Lets take a look:

  1. Mitt Romney
  2. Rudy Giuliani
  3. Duncan Hunter
  4. John McCain
  5. Sam Brownback
  6. Tom Tancredo
  7. Jim Gilmore
  8. Mike Huckabee
  9. Tommy Thompson
  10. Ron Paul

The General consensus is that Romney won, with Rudy following very close behind. While the “experts” seem to think that McCain came in close to the top as well, I believe Duncan Hunter performed just as well. Since Hunter is lesser known and his expectations were lower, he get bonus points. Sam Brownback falls in the middle spot, with the others falling into line closer to the bottom of the list. Had Gov. Thompson not blown the question about firing Gays because of their sexual preference, he would have been higher. Ron Paul came into 10th place, dead last. Paul is an isolationist who does not support a strong military – exactly what we do NOT need right now.

I also worked together a letter grade for the players. Note that the grades may not reflect each candidate’s position in my rankings:

  1. Romney = A
  2. Giuliani = B+
  3. Huner = A-
  4. McCain = B-
  5. Sam Brownback = B
  6. Tom Tancredo = B-
  7. Jim Gilmore = C
  8. Mike Huckabee = C
  9. Tommy Thompson = C-
  10. Ron Paul = D
  11. Chris Matthews, MSNBC, Politico = D-

What do you think, do you agree/disagree? Let me know, use the comments section.
