In a classic example of political corruption – similar to the kind that help the Republicans loose their majority in 2008, Representative William Jefferson (D – LA) has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on charges of bribery, obstruction of justice, wire fraud, money-laundering, and conspiracy. The total indictment contains 16 charges, is 94 pages long, and could send Jefferson to Prison for as long as 235 years.
The scandal started more than two years ago, but became public when an FBI raid found $90,000 hidden in a freezer. Some Jefferson associates have already plead guilty to corruption charges and were sentenced to prison terms. They have also agreed to work with Prosecutors against Jefferson.
