Wednesday Polling Update

Has Mitt Romney passed Fred Thompson to become the #2 GOP candidate in the primaries? Well, maybe – it depends on which  poll you look at. Romney has deffinately made gains on both Thompson and Giuliani, and at least one poll shows Romney above Thompson in Second place. That poll is the Quinnipiac GOP Primary poll. Here are the results:

Quinnipiac Nat’l GOP Primary – August, 2007

Rudy Giuliani – 28%
Mitt Romney – 15%
Fred Thompson – 12%
John McCain – 11%

Now, if you ask me, Thompson’s numbers are a little too low in that poll, so I am slightly suspicious of the results. However, another poll out today also shows Romney making gains, and Thompson slippling. However, Rasmussen has always shown Thompson to be higher than other polls. Here are the results for that poll:

Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll – August 15, 2007

Rudy Giuliani – 24%
Fred Thompson – 20%
Mitt Romney – 16%
John McCain – 11%

Both polls are good news for Romney, and I’m going to guess that we will see his numbers go even higher in the next couple days. Who knows, maybe Romney will be the frontrunner by October, but that is just a wild guess.
