A New Hampshire update:
Mitt Romney 32% Rudy Giuliani 22% John McCain 15% Ron Paul 7% Mike Huckabee 6% Fred Thompson 5%
Ok, simple enough to understand. Romney leads, by a 10% margin, Rudy Giuliani follows, and John McCain is in third. Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee lag far behind the other candidates. There are two important points in this poll:
- Romney still leads – There had been speculation about a month ago that Giuliani was closing the gap in New Hampshire, and, at the time, the polls showed that he was. Now however, Romney appears to have regained a comfortable (though not enough to guarantee a win) lead.
- Huckabee trails big –After Huckabee’s strong performance at the FRC conference, some people wondered weather he could pull a Romney-style come-from-behind win in Iowa and New Hampshire. While possible, he still trails Romney in Iowa by a 2-1 margin, and, as this poll shows, is doing even worse in NH. At this point, Huckabee is decidedly NOT a tier-one candidate.
