America’s Liberal Slide? Not so Fast – Republicans Gain Ground on Key Issues

The election of Barack Obama to the Presidency might have seemed like some as a sign of things to come: a shift away from the Reagan Revolution towards a more liberal America, but so far, that isn’t what polls are showing. Although Democrats did gain leads on all major issues prior to the 2008 elections, Republicans have since taken back the lead on National Security, Taxes, Abortion, and Immigration; tied on Social Security; and pulled within the margin of error on the economy, Iraq, and Government Ethics. In fact, Democrats only maintain a large lead on two issues – Health Care and Education, their two tent-pole issues.

Obama might be in charge – but it doesn’t look like the liberal agenda has broad support under any definition.
